In the title story The Day I Stopped Drinking Milk from Sudha Murty’s book, she shares an experience from her visit to a tribal area. She stayed in a poor village where people had very little to eat and drink. When she was offered a glass of milk by a little girl, Sudha Murty realized that the family was giving her all the milk they had, even though they themselves could go without it. She felt very touched and guilty that her presence caused them to sacrifice so much. From that day on, she decided to stop drinking milk because she couldn’t forget how precious it was to the poor family who shared it with her.
