Review of The Blue Umbrella

Author: Ruskin Bond

Publisher: Rupa

My Review:

The Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond is a story set in a small village in the hills of Himachal Pradesh. It is about a young girl named Binya who gets a beautiful blue umbrella from some tourists. The umbrella is very special and soon becomes the center of attention in the village. Everyone admires it, especially Ram Bharosa, the shopkeeper, who feels jealous and wants the umbrella for himself.
Because of his jealousy, Ram Bharosa behaves badly and tries to get the umbrella in wrong ways. This causes him to lose the respect of the villagers. Later, he realizes his mistake and feels sorry for his actions. In the end, Binya shows kindness and forgives him, teaching an important lesson about generosity, forgiveness, and how jealousy can harm relationships.

My Comment on this Book:

I liked this book very much because it teaches us an important lesson about kindness and forgiveness. The story is easy to understand and the characters feel real. Binya’s blue umbrella is beautiful, but the story shows that being kind is more valuable than any object. I also liked how the ending is happy and peaceful. This book made me think about sharing, jealousy, and helping others. It is an interesting and meaningful story for children.
